Illinois State University President Al Bowman today released the following statement regarding remarks attributed to Trustee Jay D. Bergman in today's Pantagraph.

     "Although I have not spoken today with Trustee Bergman, I disagree with some remarks attributed to him in today's edition of the Pantagraph.
     I fully support students and student groups that become educated on issues and take a proactive stance on those issues. Educating and encouraging students to become passionate about their beliefs and values is an important part of the Illinois State University experience. Student civic engagement is also central to our institution's participation in the American Democracy Project, and I support SEAC and all groups that put their beliefs into action."
